Jose Madrid Salsa in Zanesville, Ohio recalled its Strawberry Mild salsa, packaged in 13oz glass jars due to undeclared ingredients of fish (anchovies).
Mislabeling the product could be a potential health risk for consumers who are allergic to these.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), common symptoms of an allergic reaction include swelling of the lips, face, tongue and throat, hives, abdominal pain, diarrhea and even nausea.
The recalled products were distributed in several retail stores in Ohio.
Jose Madrid Salsa were recalled after the FDA discovered during routine inspection that the product contained allergens and the packaging did not indicate the presence of these.
After investigation, it was revealed that the problem was caused by a breakdown in the company’s labeling process.
