Fedex Facility Shooting in Indianapolis Leaves 8 Dead, Several Injured

A gunman went on a shooting rampage at a FedEx facility near Indianapolis’ main airport leaving at least 8 dead and several wounded before killing himself.

“The (gunman) came into the parking lot, and I believe he exited his vehicle and quickly began shooting. … The first shooting occurred in the parking lot, and then he went inside and did not get very far (inside),” said Indianapolis police Deputy Chief Craig McCartt.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Officer Genae Cook said police arrived at the scene at around 11 PM.

The police were not able to apprehend the suspect because he shot himself after they arrived.

Police later discovered 8 bodies at the scene while other victims with gunshot and shrapnel wounds have been taken to a hospital for treatment.

There is one shooting victim who was in critical condition while two were treated at the scene.

Cook said they are still unsure whether the suspect worked at the facility and if it was terrorism-related.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said they heard multiple gunshots and said that the suspect was wearing a black hood and carried a rifle.

The family members of the FedEx employees waited at a nearby Holiday Inn Express hotel to confirm if their loved ones were safe.

Police have not yet released details on the identity of the suspect and exact details of the shooting.
