Russia Closes Kerch Strait as Ukraine Tensions Worsen

Russia has reportedly announced it will close the Kerch Strait in the Black Sea amid growing tensions in Ukraine from next week until October 2021.

The closure will affect the Ukrainian ports of Mariupol and Berdyansk and bar the entry of foreign warships.

Ukraine protested Russia’s move and demanded that Russia immediately stop “the illegal closure that separates waters of the Black Sea.”

The closure came after NATO demanded that Russia should “end provocations and de-escalates tensions” in Ukraine.
