Burmese Security forces Arrest Protest Leader in Monywa

Myanmar security forces have arrested prominent anti-coup activist Wai Moe Naing after ramming him with a car while conducting a motorcycle rally in Monywa.

“Our brother Wai Moe Naing was arrested. His motorbike was hit by an unmarked police car,” said Win Zaw Khiang, Moe Naing’s party member.

Moe Naing was last in contact with the media before the motorcycle rally started.

Unverified footage circulating social media has shown a car ramming a motorcade which was purportedly Moe Naing’s motorcade.

“We have to continue the fight by doubling our energy for Ko Wai Moe Naing, for the truth, for the present and future of the country,” said another protest leader, Tayzar San.

Instead of celebrating the five-day New Year holiday, known as Thingyan, began on pro-democracy activists and ordinary citizens have forgone celebrating and took to the streets instead to protest the Military Junta’s takeover.
