US to Boost Troop Presence in Germany

US Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III announced that the United States would increase its military presence in Germany by about 500 personnel and that they would junk the Trump administration’s place to reduce troop deployment in Europe.

“We have ceased planning (for a troop drawdown). I think our assignment of an additional 500 troops speaks to the level of our partnership and our commitment to NATO,” said Austin,

The move came after NATO expressed concern about Moscow’s deployment of additional troops near the Ukraine border.

Ukraine claimed that there are around 80,000 Russian troops on its border and Crimea while Russian media claimed that NATO forces have also been amassing around Ukraine.

The announcement of the additional deployments also came after rumors of the 9/11 pullout of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan.
