Germany’s defense minister has announced that the Bundeswehr will also withdraw from Afghanistan in September after the United States has planned to withdraw on September 11.
Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer said that she stands for an “orderly withdrawal” for the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.
“We have always said we are going in together, and we are going out together,” he said in an interview.
“I stand for an orderly withdrawal, and I expect us to decide this today,” she added.
This announcement came after US President Joe Biden announced the US withdrawal from Afghanistan by September 11.
ramp-Karrenbauer also said that a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) decision to this effect will come after a special session of “Quad” meeting.
Currently, there are some 2,500 US soldiers in Afghanistan, down from the highest point of about 98,000 in 2011.
