Nebraska State College System To Offer Students $3,000 in Pandemic Aid

Students at Chadron, Wayne and Peru state colleges who are eligible for federal Pell grants will qualify for $3,000 in pandemic stimulus funds.

The federal government is expected to send over $14 million in additional subsidies to the Nebraska State College system, half of which will go to students. Colleges in Missouri and Kansas are also receiving over $152 million in federal aid to help students that suffered financially as a result of the pandemic.

Johnson County Community College in Kansas is using some of its relief money to offer faculty $250 to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

The combined $166 million in relief comes as part of the nation’s $14.2 billion Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund.

Nebraska is one several states experiencing a rapid rise in cases of COVID-19 variants. Over 200 Nebraskans have contracted new strains of the novel coronavirus according to the state’s Department of Health.
