Some Madagascar legislators are opting to receive COVID-19 vaccines outside the country days after the country made public its intention to get vaccines via the United Nations COVAX initiative.
Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko, the MP for Toliara posted pictures on his Facebook page showing him receiving the COVID-19 vaccine while on an official trip to an undisclosed African country.
MP for Morafenobe, Jean Eugene Voninahitsy, announced his intention to get the vaccine in France where he is attending to family matters, while he called for Madagascar to begin vaccinations in the country.
Madagascar previously opted out of the COVAX initiative, claiming that it had a cure for the virus, a locally-produced remedy known as COVID-Organics. The country has now announced that it would register for the COVAX program.
