Suez Canal Briefly Blocked Again by Stalled Ships

The Suez Canal has been obstructed again for a brief period after another ship, the M/T Rumford experienced engine trouble.

“Clients were informed of a new temporary blockage in northbound traffic at the Suez Canal. The vessel upfront seems to have had run into an issue but is now finally heading north again. The remaining vessels (carrying LNG from Qatar) are still idle in the canal,” tweeted TanketTrackers.

The oil tanker Rumford reportedly stopped midway in the canal after it lost power.

Inchcape Shipping Services said the ship needed a tugboat and was eventually pulled away and resumed its way to the north of the canal.

Another oil tanker, the Minerva Nike ran aground two hours after the Rumford but was immediately refloated.

Both Aframax vessels were undamaged from the incident but caused more delays in the canal.
