Using the #StopLoaningKenya tag, Kenyans on Twitter called for the IMF to cancel its Ksh255 billion loan, accusing the international organization of aiding corruption in the country. A petition for the cause has also been setup.

Twitter user Bravin Yuri said to IMF “I believe your organization doesn’t endorse corruption but by lending money to the Jubilee administration, you’re funding corruption. The President confessed his government steals ksh. 2B daily. Stop funding corruption.”

Kenya’s public debt currently stands at Ksh7.2 trillion and is expected to surpass the Sh9 trillion mark by June 2022.
