The Iranian Military Prosecutor’s Office announced on Tuesday that indictments have been issued against “10 of the officials who had a role” in the deadly shootout of a passenger plane of Ukraine International Airlines that killed 176 people onboard.
“The indictment of the case of the Ukrainian plane was also issued and a serious and accurate investigation was carried out and indictments were issued for 10 people who were at fault,” Iran military prosecutor Gholamabbas Torki said in a statement.
The Iranian government has been facing international criticism over the past month after releasing the results of the investigation into the shoot down of Ukraine International Airlines flight No. PS752 on March 17.
The findings were condemned for blaming human error regarding the incident but named no individuals responsible for the fatal incident.
Similar to this, Toki also avoided disclosing the names of the 10 officials.
The announcement of the charges comes after Tehran initiated indirect negotiations with the western nations over its nuclear agreement with world powers.
