U.S. markets open in the green today following a better than expected March jobs report on Friday, showing that 916,000 people started new employment last month.
The Dow Jones is up 285 points to 33,438 (+0.86%), while the S&P 500 is up 40 points to 4,060 (+1%). The Nasdaq followed suit with the Dow, posting a 141 jump to 13,622 (+1.05%). Big tech is up across the board, with Tesla (TSLA) posting a $32 gain (+4.95%) and other major FAANG stocks averaging a 1% increase overall.
The market is largely being driven by the jobs report delivered on Good Friday. Unemployment fell from 6.2% to 6% in March and with the addition of nearly a million jobs, investors are looking to capitalize on what appears to be a revitalized U.S. economy.
Cryptocurrency made headlines over the weekend with Ethereum (ETH) breaking the $2,000 mark late on Thursday. ETH is currently trading for $2086, up $11 (0.54%) in this morning’s market. Bitcoin has also rallied, posting a gain of roughly $85 to $58,279 (+0.13%) but continues to fluctuate as markets push into the afternoon. Bitcoin has yet to reclaim its high of $61,000 that it achieved in March.
Markets were largely closed in Europe in observance of Easter Monday.
