The US Capitol was put on lockdown after a man rammed his car into a barricade and exited the car brandishing a knife causing capitol police to shoot at him.
Sources in the Capitol police say he rammed his car into two officers, injuring both. The officers and the suspect were taken to a hospital. The suspect and one of the officers have died.
The crash and shooting took place at a security checkpoint at the north entrace to the capitol on Constitutional Avenue.
This entrance is used by senators and staff on weekdays, but was deserted as congress is on recess. Authorities recently removed the fencing in the area that prevented vehicular traffic.
Police say the incident does not seem to be terrorism-related.
