Third NLD Member Dies in Junta Custody

A third member of the National League for Democracy (NLD) has died under military custody, according to another party member.

Executive member U Kyaw Kyaw died while being interrogated by the military junta on Tuesday, becoming the third NLD member to die under junta custody.

Fellow party member Phyo Zeya Thaw said on Facebook that the executive member was arrested on March 15.

The military did not permit Kyaw’s family to take his body for a funeral and allowed them only one final look, insisting the military would arrange the funeral instead, The Irrawaddy reported.

Earlier this month, members Ko Zaw Myat Lin and U Khin Maung Latt also died while under the regime’s custody. Authorities allegedly tortured Latt to death.

Meanwhile, ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi faced a court hearing on Thursday, as her lawyer Min Min Soe said she looked healthy in an earlier meeting through video conference.
