Suspicious Package in Fort Lauderdale Airport Causes Road Closures, Flight Delays

A suspicious package that was reported in the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport  (FLL) has caused road closures and flight delays as police conduct an investigation.

“Disruptions to airport operations may be possible and travelers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight status before coming to the airport,” announced the FLL authority.

According to reports on social media, a suspicious package was allegedly found in the 2nd and 3rd terminals of the airport while others said someone phoned in a bomb threat.

All roads to FFLL are currently closed for safety reasons while police are still investigating the area.

Local news outlets have shown aerial footage of the ongoing gridlock around the airport, I-595, and Griffin Road.

As of 7 AM local time, the FLL announced that all roads coming and going to the airport have been reopened and that they are resuming operations.

“Travelers are advised to check with their airline for updated flight information before heading to FLL. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding during this time as we work to get everyone safely to their final destinations,” added the FLL.

Police have not yet released details regarding the bomb threat and have not confirmed if it was a hoax or false alarm.
