The Myanmar Junta ordered internet service providers around the country to shut down wireless broadband services but gave no explanation why.
Photos on social media have circulated showing messages from local providers Telenor and Ooredoo announcing the suspension.
“The Myanmar Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) directive dated 1st April 2021 instructed all wireless broadband services be temporarily suspended from today until further notice,” said the message.
According to some Burmese social media users, only Fiber to the home (FTTH) services are currently available after mobile internet was also throttled the past few months.
