Le Monde Investigation Reveals that Chinese State Broadcaster Fabricated Existence of French Journalist

A Le Monde investigation has revealed that Chinese State Media Outlet CGTN’s “French Reporter”, Laurène Beaumond is fabricated and does not exist.

“The world was able to verify that no person of this name appears in the file of the Commission of the identity card of French professional journalists,” said La Monde’s report.

Beaumond was introduced as a “freelance journalist based in France, with a double degree in art history and archeology at the University of Sorbonne-IV and holder of a master’s degree in journalism” and that she has allegedly worked in various editorial offices Paris before settling down in Beijing where she lived for almost 7 years.

Beaumond’s articles staunchly defended China’s treatment of Uyghurs and accused media outlets of being biased.

“I am French and proud of it. I also don’t like when people criticize my country in an unjustified manner, why shouldn’t the Chinese have the right to be outraged when we say anything about theirs?” said Beaumond.

So far, no French news outlet has vouched for Beaumond while Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying failed to confirm her existence.

“The fact is that this French national you refer to is an independent writer. She has lived in China for many years and visited Xinjiang many times. The article she wrote is a record of what she saw and heard in Xinjiang and the truth and reality on the ground, which is very objective and fair,” said Hua.
