Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny announced he has started a prison hunger strike after being allegedly denied medical care for his back and leg pains.
“I have gone on a hunger strike demanding that the law be obeyed and that a visiting doctor be allowed to visit me,” said Navalny’s message to his lawyers.
Navalny also complained about the hourly checks on him at night which he claimed amounted to sleep deprivation torture.
Navalny was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for violating the terms of his probation while recovering in Germany and is currently serving his time at a prison colony in Pokrov in the Vladimir region.
