U.S. Offers $10 Million Bounty for Assassin of Lebanese PM Rafik Hariri.

The US Department of State announced a $10m bounty for Salim Ayyash, a Hezbollah fugitive convicted for assassinating former Lebanese PM Rafik Hariri.

The State Department announced the bounty through its Rewards for Justice program.

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon set up by the UN in the Netherlands has already convicted Ayyash last December.

Ayyash in absentia to life in prison over the killing of Hariri in 2005 and was suspected to be still in hiding in Lebanon under the protection of the Hezbollah.

Hariri’s son, Bahaa welcomed the move and said he had confidence in the international justice system to catch his father’s killer.

“I welcome the imitative by the President’s Biden administration to offer a bounty of $10 million in exchange of information on the whereabouts of Salim Ayyash,” said Bahaa.

Ayyash is also under investigation over three other attacks on Lebanese politicians in the mid-2000s and for allegedly plotting to harm US military personnel.
