Liberty Mountain Recalls Birdie Belay Devices Due to Potential Safety Risk

Liberty Mountain of Sandy, Utah, recalled about 1,400 Beal Birdie Belay devices due to potential safety risk.

The device user can be unable to lower the climber, posing a risk of injury to the climber.

The firm has received three reports of the user being unable to lower the climber because the hand lever became detached from the device.

The Beal Birdie Belay device is used by rock climbers, with climbing ropes to protect the climber while climbing or while being lowered on the rope.

The devices were manufactured in Taiwan and were sold at REI stores nationwide.

The company urges consumers to immediately stop using the recalled Beal Birdie Belay devices and to contact Liberty Mountain for a free replacement.

There have been no reported incidents to date.
