Taiwan Starts Mass Production of Long-Range Missiles Amid Growing Tensions with China

Taiwanese defense minister Chiu Kuo-cheng announced that they have started mass producing long-range missiles and developing three other models.

Chiu said that research on such weapons continued to be developed by the state-owned National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST).

“We hope it is long-range, accurate, and mobile,” said Chiu

The NCSIST has also already recently carried out a series of missile tests off the island’s south-eastern coast.

NCSIST deputy director Leng Chin-hsu disclosed that one long-range, land-based missile had already entered production and three other long-range missiles were in development but could not disclose any further details.

President Tsai Ing-wen said they needed to deter Chinese incursion and to be able to strike targets in the Mainland if Beijing escalates hostilities.

The US has also expressed intent to supply Taiwan with weapons to counter the growing influence of China in the region through its “Fortress Taiwan” program.
