MSF Claims Ethiopian Forces Executed Tigray Civilians

Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) (Doctors Without Borders) said on Thursday that while travelling in the war-torn Tigray region, its staff witnessed the killing of at least four civilians by Ethiopian soldiers.

The staff members were travelling in a marked car between Mekelle, the regional capital, and Adigrat on Tuesday when they came across what seemed like the aftermath of an ambush on an Ethiopian military convoy, MSF said in a statement attributed to Karline Kleijer, its head of emergency programmes.

Ethiopian soldiers stopped the MSF car and two public minibuses driving behind it. “The soldiers then forced the passengers to leave the minibuses. The men were separated from the women, who were allowed to walk away. Shortly after, the men were shot,” MSF said.

A short distance away from the scene, the MSF car was stopped again by soldiers. The driver was dragged out and beaten by the soldiers who also threatened to kill him. Eventually, he was let go and allowed to drive back to Mekelle.
