An evacuation order was issued for a portion of the Dutch parliamentary complex while the Het Plein square was closed off due to a bomb threat.
“The Binnenhof is currently being evacuated. We are investigating there after a bomb threat,” announced the Dutch police on social media at around 5:30 PM local time.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, the Ministry of General Affairs, and both houses of parliament all have their offices in the Binnenhof.
Police reopened the areas at around 6 PM after they found no explosive devices and dismissed that the threat was a hoax.
There are no details yet on who sent the threat or why it was sent but currently, the Dutch government is facing backlash from citizens over the strict lockdown measures.
