Cuba announced to it would inoculate 150,000 frontliners as part of the final phase of a clinical trial of the country’s leading COVID-19 vaccine candidate amid the increase of cases in the country.
Foreign Trade and Investment Minister Rodrigo Malmierca in a tweet said that it could inoculate 150,000 people as the phase 3 trial is safe.
“Cuba could immunize 150,000 people immediately from COVID-19, as the phase 3 trial of this vaccine is demonstrating it is very safe,” he tweeted.
The shots using the Soberana 2 vaccine started on Monday aims to immunize medical and other personnel at high risk, the authorities said.
Soberana 2 is on its final phase of a clinical trial for involving 44,000 volunteers from the general population.
