India Daily COVID Cases Spike, Highest Infection Rate in Three Months

India hits the highest number of daily COVID-19 cases with 28,903 new infections after three months, health ministry data showed.

It was the highest increase since December 13, having a total number of cases to 11.44 million, and 188 new fatalities totaling 159,044 deaths. The country has still 234,406 active cases.

About 62 percent of infections in the past 24 hours and 46 percent of the deaths were reported in the western state of Maharashtra, the country’s worst affected.

India has the world’s highest number of COVID-19 cases after the United States and Brazil.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the issue regarding the increase in cases in India in a video conference with state chief ministers on Wednesday.
