The Serbian government announced on Thursday that it would begin producing Sinopharm coronavirus shots in the Balkan country by mid-October, becoming the first European nation that has agreed to the production of the Chinese vaccine.
President Aleksandar Vucic announced on Thursday that Serbia has agreed to the construction of a factory for the production of Sinopharm’s COVID-19 vaccine. He said the deal is expected to be signed within the following two weeks.
Vucic’s announcement came after meeting with the United Arab Emirates Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Dubai on the same day.
“We made a big deal tonight. A brand new factory for Sinopharm vaccines, we will build it together with the UAE and the Chinese in Serbia and we will start producing vaccines as early as October 15,” Vucic said in a statement on Thursday.
“We will have large quantities of vaccine for us, but also for the entire region,” he added.
