Sangay Volcano in Ecuador Erupts

Ecuador’s Sangay volcano has erupted and caused ashfall 8km away.

The ash plume reportedly reached 28, 890 feet into the air and blanketed most of the province of Chimborazo.

Videos filmed by Twitter user @AndresYambay13 have shown the overcast conditions in the province after the eruption.

The National Service for Risk and Emergency Management of Ecuador said public and private activities in Chimborazo were suspended and advised residents to stay indoors and wear protective gear.

The Sangay volcano exhibited volcanic activity over the past few weeks and emitted smaller ash plumes.
