Gunmen Abduct Students from College in Northern Nigeria

Gunmen kidnapped 30 students at about 11:30 PM on Thursday from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization in Afaka, Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna state, Nigeria.

“About 30 students, a mix of males and females, are yet to be accounted for,” said the State Commissioner for International Security and Home Affairs Samuel Aruwan. He mentioned that several members of staff of the school were taken as well.

The kidnapping is the first time gunmen are attacking a tertiary institution. They usually target secondary schools which have younger students.

This is the fourth mass kidnapping since December. In December, more than 300 boys were kidnapped from a school in Kankara, Katsina State. In the past few weeks, 279 schoolgirls were abducted from a boarding school in Jangebe, Zamfara state. And 27 boys were taken from their school in Niger state along with 3 staff and 12 families.
