China Introduces Virus Passport System

China has started a ‘virus-passport,’  health certificate program for Chinese citizens who will be traveling internationally.

The health certificate which was launched on Monday will show the person’s vaccination status and virus test results via WeChat. It will be also available in paper form by the Chinese citizens but it is not yet required.

The program includes an encrypted QR code that will allow authorities to have traveler’s health information, local media agency Xinhua reported.

The foreign ministry spokesman said that it aims to “help promote world economic recovery and facilitate cross-border travel.”

Bahrain earlier has already begun with its “vaccine passport.” While the European Union is working on its “green pass” that would permit citizens to travel among the country members.

United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK) are also among those countries which consider implementing similar permits.
