Panasonic to Acquire US Supply Chain Company Blue Yonder for $6.5B

Japanese tech company Panasonic is making plans to acquire American supply chain company Blue Yonder for $6.5 billion, as announced on the Nikkie 225.

Panasonic plans to scale up hardware production for products that contain software, sensors, and other small devices. The goal of the merger is to ultimately increase operational efficiencies across the board according to Panasonic.

Negotiations are still under way, though both companies have reported that they have reached their final stage. In May 2020, Panasonic purchased a 20% stake in Blue Yonder for $5.5 billion in efforts to accelerate Autonomous Supply Chain tech.

Blue Yonder uses AI technology to help predict product demand and supply chain efficacy, improving supply lines by decreasing travel time.

If the acquisition occurs, it will be the largest made by Panasonic since 2011.
