The Myanmar military junta has removed the licenses of Burmese media outlets Mizzima, Myanmar Now, 7-Day, DVB, and Khit Thit Media.
All the impacted media outlets covered the start of the pro-democracy protests since the coup started.
In addition to the revocation of licenses, several reporters have already been detained on baseless charges.
The revocation of licenses will make reporting illegal which would be advantageous to the junta’s censorship efforts and information blackouts.
State-run media Global New Light of Myanmar and MRTV remained untouched and continued to operate amid the ongoing tensions.
Global New Light of Myanmar recently expressed support for the military occupation of public buildings“ and said it was “for the benefit of the people.”
