Senegal Receives 324,000 COVID-19 Vaccine Doses from World Health Organization COVAX initiative

Senegal has received the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine through the COVAX facility. The country received 324,000 doses of the vaccine to add to the 200,000 doses of China’s Sinopharm vaccine which it bought to kick off the first phase of vaccinations.

Senegal aims to vaccinate 3.5 million people, including frontline healthcare workers, and high-risk workers between the ages of 19 and 60, during the first phase of vaccinations.

So far, the country has vaccinated around 40,000 people, including President Macky Sall.

The COVAX initiative, which is backed by the World Health Organization and the GAVI vaccine alliance, was created to give low to middle-income countries equal access to COVID-19 vaccines.
