PrismHR experienced a massive outage after reportedly suffering from a ransomware attack over the weekend.
PrismHR reported that it detected suspicious activity on its networks on Feb. 28 which prompted them to disable access to its platform for all users to contain the breach.
“We’re Working on Getting the System Back Online. The system you are attempting to access is currently unavailable. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your continued patience as we work to restore the system to operation as quickly as possible,” said PrismHR’s client portal.
PrismHR has over 80,000 Professional employer organizations (PEO) as clients with 2 million employees.
PrismHR did not specify the type of cyber attack it suffered but their solutions were similar to recommendations for responding to a ransomware outbreak.
Ransomware operators are known to attack during weekends due to lessened staff in company facilities.
PrismHR reassured its clients that the investigation is ongoing and that they are not aware of any sensitive data being breached or compromised.
If the data was indeed stolen, social security numbers, payroll, ID cards, employee benefit information, and information for beneficiaries could be leaked or used by malicious actors.
