Tokyo has demanded that Beijing stop conducting COVID-19 anal swab tests on Japanese citizens because it caused them “psychological pain.”
“Some Japanese reported to our embassy in China that they received anal swab tests, which caused a great psychological pain,” said Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato.
Many Japanese employees in Beijing have reportedly complained that the test humiliates people and could violate their human rights and dignity.
Kato said that their request has not been answered yet and that they will continue to ask for alternatives to anal swabs.
Japan has not yet acknowledged how many of its citizens were subjected to the tests and how many were affected.
China has not yet given a statement but Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin claimed that they have adjusted anti-epidemic measures “in a scientific manner” in accordance with “relevant laws and regulations.”
