Syrian Forces Repel Israeli-fired Rockets in Damascus

The Syrian army reported that it has repelled a, Israeli missiles launch from the direction of the Golan Heights into Damascus.

“At 10:16 this evening (2016 GMT), the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial attack from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan on some targets in the Damascus area,”  said one military official to state news agency SANA.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the missiles were aimed at the south of Damascus where Iranian Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah reportedly have bases.

Israel has not yet confirmed whether it launched the strike but Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz said last week that they were taking action “almost weekly” to counter alleged heavy Iranian presence in Syria.

The strike happened just days after the explosion on the Israeli-owned MV Helios Ray and the US airstrike near the Iraqi border.

The Assad regime has also not admitted harboring large numbers of Iranian forces within their borders but said that Tehran has only. sent military advisers.
