China has promised to deliver 400,000 doses of the Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine to Afghanistan, authorities said on Monday.
Ghulam Dastagir Nazari of the health ministry said, “China’s ambassador to Kabul said in a meeting with health officials that his country would provide Afghanistan with 400,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine,” he told Reuters.
However, the delivery date of the vaccines has yet to be determined, Nazari said.
Last week, the country started its vaccination campaign with the 500,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from India.
Nazari also said that around 12,000 health workers across the country have already been immunized.
The conflict-stricken nation has recorded 55,733 cases with 2,444 deaths as of Monday.
