ISIS Bride Shamima Begum Denied Request Return to the UK

The British Supreme Court has denied  ISIS bride Shamima Begum’s request to return to the United Kingdom to appeal the revocation of her citizenship.

Begum was 15 when she and two other British schoolgirls traveled to Syria to join the Islamic State militant group and become brides last February 2015.

Begum’s citizenship was revoked on national security grounds after she was found, nine months pregnant, in a Syrian refugee camp in February 2019.

The Supreme Court said last November that allowing her to return “would create significant national security risks” and expose the public to “an increased risk of terrorism” after she appealed to reverse the Home Office’s decision to remove her citizenship.

“The right to a fair hearing does not trump all other considerations, such as the safety of the public,” said Robert Reed, the president of the Supreme Court.

Begum claimed that she was angry, upset and crying over the decision.

Begum is one of the 150 people stripped of their British citizenship for terror-related offenses.
