At least 7 Killed, Multiple Injured During Haitian Prison Break

A deadly prison break has killed at least seven people, including the director of the prison,  Paul Hector Joseph, in Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince on Thursday, authorities said.

Haitian national police spokesperson Gary Desrosiers said “Division inspector Paul Hector Joseph, who is in charge of the civil prison of Croix des Bouquets, was killed in the prison,” he told AFP.

The total number of escapees were not yet known, but at least six people were fatally shot near the prison.

Authorities also said Arnel Joseph, one of the most notorious gang leaders in Haiti, was among those who escaped.

Around 40 inmates were captured following the riot, the spokesperson added.

Meanwhile, Haiti Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe told local newspaper Le Nouvelliste that officials have now regained control of the prison.
