Pro-Junta Protesters attack Pro-Democracy Demonstration and Bystanders in Yangon

Pro-military junta demonstrators have attacked pro-democracy protesters and bystanders in Yangon leaving several injured.

The Junta supporters were reportedly armed with knives and slingshots and have stabbed one man while they have also thrown rocks at people.

Footage circulating social media has shown a knife-wielding protester chasing down another man in front of a hotel before stabbing him.

The Junta supporters were also carrying around banners that said “We stand with the defense services” and banged pots and pans to disrupt the pro-democracy protesters.

The group initially gathered at Yangon’s Sule Pagoda, before they marched to Yangon Central station to start fights with residents and pro-democracy protesters.

“They shot at us with slingshots from the car… around 10 people were injured in the head,” said resident  Aung Zin Lin.

Security forces then arrived to break up the commotion and allegedly took away the attackers.

There are no reports yet on how many were killed or injured during the clashes.

According to Reuters, it is the first-ever large pro-military demonstration in the country so far.
