Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia has formally denounced a “attempted military coup” and marched in the streets with supporters earlier this morning.
Pashinyan posted a video to Facebook saying that he considered statements made by Armenian military officials are an attempted coup. The protests arranged by Pashinyan have so far been non-violent in nature.
A statement made by Armenian military on Thursday said that the Prime Minister and his cabinet were unfit to lead and could “no longer make reasonable decisions”. The statement would go on to criticize Pashinyan for foreign policy decisions, saying that he had brought Armenia to “the brink of destruction”.
Two opposition parties have currently backed the military’s demands, with the Armenian National Security Service asking both sides to abstain from any hostile actions or violent demonstrations.
