Three Arrested For 2017 Assassination of Maltese Journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia

Maltese police on Tuesday arrested three men accused of supplying the bomb which assassinated the prominent anti-corruption journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in 2017.

According to the police, Adrian Agius, Robert Agius, and Jamie Vella were arrested during an operation that the authorities carried out on Tuesday.

Two of the suspects were arrested while the police officers were searching the Bahrija area Tuesday night. The third suspect was arrested in Swieqi.

The three recent arrests came after Vince Muscat confessed to his role in executing the assassination of Galizia.

In exchange for a 15-year jail term instead of a possible life sentence, Muscat agreed to cooperate with the investigators and authorities. He also agreed to provide a confession and testimony about the murder case.

Judge Edwina Grima then sentenced Muscat to 15 years in prison on Tuesday and confirmed his plea deal, following the joint request of Muscat’s defense lawyer and concession from the prosecutors.
