Nigerian authorities say kidnappers have released 53 hostages taken from a state-owned bus in Kundu village in Niger state, Nigeria. The freed hostages include 20 women and 9 children.
A separate attack was carried out in a secondary school in Kagara where dozens of students were kidnapped. The students have not been released.
Governor of Niger state, Abubakar Sani Bello, gave a statement saying “We went through one week of dialogue, consultations, hard work, sleepless nights because we had to ensure that we secured at least within this shortest possible time. We still have students from science secondary school in Kagara and everything is being done to ensure that they are released the soonest.”
At this time, it is unknown whether or not a ransom was paid to the kidnappers.
