Afghan Peace Talks Resume in Doha

Peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban have resumed in Qatar’s capital since the talks halted in January.

Taliban spokesperson Dr. Mohammad Naeem wrote on Twitter, “This evening, a meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere between the leaders and some members of the two delegations for the inter-Afghan talks.”

“The meeting emphasized the need to continue negotiations. And assigned groups to set the agenda, to continue their meetings on the subject,” he said on Monday.

President Joe Biden’s administration is currently reviewing the 2020 agreement, which hopes to result to a ceasefire including the withdrawal of its forces from the state.

No further details were made known about the meeting, other than the setting of the agenda.

Both sides now have to take up the lists they have submitted for agreement on items for negotiation.
