French Immigration officer Stabbed to Death by Sudanese Migrant

An immigration official has been stabbed to death by a Sudanese migrant in the city of Pau in southwestern France.

The suspect reportedly stabbed the 46-year-old head of the refugee welcome center in his office around 11 am local time.

According to other immigration workers, the victim reportedly allowed the suspect to meet with him but was attacked when he rejected the suspect’s asylum application.

The victim was reportedly found in his office with multiple stab wounds to his chest and died soon after.

“This is a terrible tragedy, all the more because the victim spent his entire professional life helping migrants and asylum seekers. The man’s asylum request had been rejected and for good reasons. He then turned against the head of the service, this is extreme and absurd violence,” said Pau mayor François Bayrou.

The suspect was not living at the center had reportedly lived there in the past.

Police said the suspect had a violent background and was jailed before.
