Bhutan: General and Judges Arrested in Alleged Coup Plot

A Bhutanese general and two judges were arrested by the police for allegedly plotting to overthrow the top military officer, Lieutenant General Batoo Tshering by implicating him in a corruption scandal.

Former Royal bodyguard commandant Brigadier Thinley Tobgay, Supreme Court judge Kuenley Tshering and top district court judge Yeshey Dorji were detained and denied bail for their plan.

Details about the plot were discovered after a woman was arrested a few months ago said the three reportedly wanted to become the Chief Operating Officer of RBA, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and Attorney General or Registrar General of the Supreme Court.

Tobgay reportedly obtained military documents on the procurement of vehicles from the UN which was supposed to be used to frame Tshering despite being released publicly.
