Russia Sends 100K Sputnik V Vaccine Doses to Venezuela

Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro announced that their country will receive 100,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine next week.

Once the first batch arrives in Caracas, the national vaccination campaign will start in various phases.

“When the vaccination process begins, we are going to vaccinate all medical personnel, all health personnel in Venezuela. Then the most vulnerable sectors, and then we will vaccinate the teachers,” said Maduro.

The incoming shipment is a small fraction of a total of 10 million vaccines that Russian authorities promised to send Venezuela.

Aside from teachers and healthcare workers, members of “We Are Venezuela”, a government aid group for victims of the U.S. blockade will also be vaccinated.

“We want to guarantee that the movement continues visiting house by house, offering protection to victims of the U.S. hostilities,” said Maduro.

Venezuela currently has 131,096 cases since the beginning of the pandemic and more than 1,240 deaths.
