At Least Five People Killed and Dozens Hurt in 50 Car Pileup on I-35 Fort Worth

More than 50 vehicles were involved in an accident on I-35W in Fort Worth, Texas Thursday at 6 a.m., leaving upwards of 30 people trapped and requiring medical attention.

According to authorities at least 5 people have been killed, and more than 36 hospitalized.

Multiple 18-wheeler trucks were involved in the accident, as well as a MedStar unit, part of Fort Worth’s first responder force.

Fort Worth and MedStar first responders estimated that 20 to 30 people would need medical transport. 

Several people were listed as being in critical condition as of 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Medical officials have not identified any fatalities, though the search through the piled vehicles is ongoing. 

The accident stretches 1.5 miles long and has been deemed a mass casualty event by Texas officials.
