Peru Starts COVID-19 Vaccination Program

Peru launches its COVID-19 vaccination program for the medical workers on Tuesday from the China company Sinopharm.

The head of Intensive Care and Intermediate Care Service at the Arzobispo Loayza Hospital Josef Vallejos Acevedo said in an local radio interview, he was pleased that the vaccine has already been launched in their country.

“Very pleased, knowing that it marks a historic day in Peruvian medicine, especially in this preventive part in the fight against this disease that has hit us so hard,” he said.

Meanwhile, Peru President Francisco Sagasti also received his first shot on Tuesday after the official launch of the vaccination campaign against the virus.

Sagasti said at the Central Military Hospital, he received the vaccine without doubt and fear.

“Today I am getting vaccinated without fear but with confidence and hope, along with all of you who are going to be vaccinated,” he said.

The country has began its first round of immunization two days after receiving 300,000 doses of vaccine from China’s Sinopharm laboratory.

As of writing, Peru has more than 1.2 million cases of COVID-19, 1.11 million recovered and 42,626 deaths.
