A 7.7 Quake Strikes off the Coast of the Loyalty Islands; Tsunami Watch Issued

The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a 7.7-magnitude quake struck 33km southeast of the Loyalty Islands.

The quake occurred 13:20:00 (UTC) and was centered at 23.251°S 171.485°E with a depth of 10.0 km.

The National Weather Service (NWS) tweeted that a review would be conducted to know if there is a potential tsunami threat to California, Oregon, Washington state, Alaska, and British Columbia, Canada.

The US Tsunami Warning System has already issued a 0.3-1 meters alert for Vanuatu and Fiji.

American Samoa is currently on watch but large waves are still a possibility.
