Washington State Patrol Trooper Killed by Avalanche

A Washington State Patrol Trooper was killed by an avalanche in French Cabin Creek area, according to authorities on Tuesday.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) has confirmed that veteran Trooper Steve Houle was found dead after his snowmobiler was trapped by the avalanche on Monday.

WSP Chief John Batiste said, “Steve was a great person and an excellent employee, loved and respected by us all. We hold his memory and his family close to our hearts in this painfully sad time.”

Houle served in the WSP Kittitas County for over 28 years.

Houle has been the latest victim in a series of incidents involving avalanches killing 15 people last week in the US, the highest death toll in this time period, authorities say.
